PaperMove terms of use
Version 2026-07-25.2 ยท Last updated 25 July 2026
These terms are a plain-language operational draft for an invitation-only beta and should receive legal review before PaperMove is offered more widely.
1. The service
PaperMove is a private research-workflow organiser operated by Chen Liu. It helps invited users organise papers, tasks, weekly deadlines, handoffs, files, independently selected opportunities, and a shared Information Board.
By accepting an invitation, creating a password, or using PaperMove, you agree to these terms and acknowledge the privacy notice.
2. Invitations and accounts
- PaperMove may be used only by an invited person through their own account.
- You must provide accurate account information and keep your password and MFA method secure.
- You must not share access, attempt to access another workspace, or bypass service security.
- Tell the operator promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
3. Your information and responsibilities
You retain responsibility for information and files you add. You grant the operator and service providers only the limited permission needed to host, process, secure, back up, display, and return that information to you as part of the service.
You must have authority to store the information you add, including information about coauthors, collaborators, research participants, institutions, or confidential projects. Do not upload unlawful, infringing, malicious, or unnecessarily sensitive information.
4. Information Board
Board posts are visible to all signed-in users. Do not post confidential, sensitive, unlawful, abusive, or misleading content. Posts are not permanent records: they are automatically deleted after 30 days and may be removed earlier by their author or the operator.
5. Calendars
Calendar access, if enabled after the release checks, is read-only. PaperMove will not create, change, accept, decline, or delete calendar events. A PaperMove task created in response to a calendar entry is a separate record. You are responsible for having permission to connect each account and may disconnect it.
6. Public opportunities and external services
Opportunity information is collected from independent public sources. PaperMove is not affiliated with or endorsed by those publishers unless expressly stated. Monitoring, extraction, categorisation, and change detection may be incomplete, delayed, or wrong.
Always verify deadlines, eligibility, fees, travel support, submission instructions, and later changes on the original source. Tracking an opportunity in PaperMove does not apply, submit, register, reserve a place, or create any relationship with the publisher.
7. Acceptable use
You must not:
- use PaperMove for unlawful, deceptive, abusive, or harmful activity;
- upload malware or deliberately interfere with the service;
- scrape, probe, or overload PaperMove or its providers;
- infringe another person's privacy, confidentiality, or intellectual-property rights; or
- misrepresent PaperMove as an official service of an employer, university, funder, conference organiser, or the EAA.
8. Availability and backups
PaperMove is provided as an invitation-only beta and may change, experience interruptions, or be withdrawn. Reasonable care will be taken to protect saved data, but uninterrupted access or permanent retention is not guaranteed. You should download periodic JSON backups and retain authoritative research files elsewhere.
9. Suspension and closure
Access may be suspended to protect users or the service, investigate a security concern, comply with law, or address a serious breach of these terms. You may permanently delete your own account from the Account view. This removes the account and its owned workspace data; it does not alter references stored independently in another user's isolated workspace. Export anything you need before confirming deletion because self-service deletion cannot be undone.
10. Disclaimers and liability
PaperMove is an organisational aid, not legal, financial, funding, research-ethics, immigration, travel, or professional advice. You remain responsible for decisions, submissions, deadlines, backups, and compliance obligations.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Subject to that, the operator is not responsible for losses caused by inaccurate third-party listings, missed deadlines, external service failures, unauthorised user content, or use contrary to this guide and these terms.
11. Changes and governing law
Material changes will be dated and communicated where reasonably practicable. Continued use after a change takes effect means acceptance of the updated terms; if you do not agree, stop using PaperMove and delete your account.
These terms are governed by Scots law, subject to any mandatory rights that apply to you. The Scottish courts have non-exclusive jurisdiction.
